Isiah Whitlock Jr., a renowned actor recognized for his impactful performances in television dramas, has passed away at the age of 71. Whitlock’s distinguished career included memorable roles in popular series such as HBO’s “The Wire,” the political satire “Veep,” and Showtime’s “Your Honor.”

Whitlock began his acting journey in 1987, landing his first television role on the classic CBS drama “Cagney & Lacey.” However, his breakthrough performance came years later when he portrayed the notorious Maryland state senator, Clayton “Clay” Davis, on HBO’s critically acclaimed show “The Wire.” He played this character throughout all five seasons, transitioning from a recurring role in the first four seasons to a main cast member in Season 5.

The series, which aired from 2002 to 2008, delved deep into Baltimore’s drug trade and the inner workings of its political landscape.
