SHADY!! LeSean McCoy will sign a one day contract to come home and retire with the Philadelphia Eagles after a 12 year career.
What’s crazy is he’s only 33-years-old and retired after racking up yards with the Birds, six Pro Bowls, two All-Pro, and 11,102 career rushing yards. McCoy’s 6,792 yards for the Eagles have him as their all-time leading rusher, quite an accomplishment considering half the coaches in Philly don’t even like running the ball (you hear that, Nick???).
McCoy was playing on the Buccaneers, but he barely gets the ball and looks like he might have gotten bored down there in Florida. The Bucs also have guys like Leonard Fournette, Giovani Bernard, and Ronald Jones II soaking up all the action.
One of McCoy’s best games was on December 8, 2013, where he rushed for 217 yards and two touchdowns in blizzard like conditions in Philadelphia. It was the ultimate Snow Bowl. Nick Foles was at the helm and lead the Eagles to a 34-20 destruction of the Detroit Lions.
McCoy was the dude who racked up an amazing career and didn’t even touch the ball with his left hand. You’d see him take a handoff to the left and he’d still carry in his right hand, probably driving his coach nuts. Oh well, it got him the leading rusher spot in Eagles history, so it worked for him!
Shady hasn’t been getting much action at all, even since last season. Bleacher Report had an update on his stats, saying:
He averaged 3.2 yards per carry for the Buffalo Bills in 2018 before the Bills cut him the following August. He remained somewhat productive in a limited role for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019, but his 646 yards from scrimmage were a career low until his 2021 campaign. The Pennsylvania native won a championship ring with the Chiefs but was inactive for the Super Bowl LIV.
Through his first 10 years, McCoy had 2,821 total touches, the 17th-most in NFL history, per Pro Football Reference. All of the hits he absorbed over that period seem to be adding up for the 5’11”, 210-pound ball-carrier.
As an Eagles fan, we loved him here and we’re happy he’s coming home to retire. The best years of his career were with the Eagles, even if he didn’t win a Super Bowl here. His Super Bowl rings came with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – both in a backup role.
