UPDATE: A tweet was discovered that may contradict the report by CNN and Reuters. It was by Vincent Lee and stated “Reuters: South Korea govt says Kim Jong Un is not seriously ill – Yonhap.”
Still waiting on confirmation from North Korea.
UPDATE 2: Kim Jong Un made his first public appearance this week, 5/26, and I do not think the early reports by CNN were very accurate. They may have went on a hunch or an unknown source, so I would say for anyone reading to disregard the rest of the story and seek another source to see if they have any more information.

North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, is being monitored by the United States intelligence after a US official reported him being in “grave danger after a surgery” as reported on CNN and Reuters.
It’s stated, by Reuters, that he had a cardiovascular procedure this month and he’s now receiving some sort of treatment related to the surgery, although the specifics remain highly unclear.
The North Korean leader missed his grandfather’s birthday, back on April 15, and speculation began about his health or other concerns. He was reportedly seen several days prior to the birthday celebration where he allegedly participated in a government meeting. “North Korea marked the anniversary of the birthday of its founding father and Kim’s grandfather, Kim Il Sung, as a national holiday on April 15, but Kim was not seen in attendance. ”
CNN’s article claims they have reached out to several outlets, such as the CIA, State Department, and National Security Council, to gather more intel, but also stated that North Korea is one of the most difficult places to attain information.
Kim Jong Un was last seen on North Korean state media back on April 11. Since then, not much.
Some of the information provided was made known by defectors who work on a website called Daily NK, which apparently provides information one may not typically have access to.
Reuters further stated, “South Korea’s Unification Ministry, which handles inter-Korean affairs, declined to comment on the report.
Kim’s health has deteriorated in recent months due to heavy smoking, obesity and overwork, the Daily NK report said.”
No further details are available at this time.
