SUV plows through Christmas parade, leaving dozens injured, 5 fatalities: report

UPDATE: five reported fatalities, dozens injured, suspect charged. ABC News reported: “39-year-old Darrell Brooks is charged with five counts of first-degree intentional homicide in Waukesha Christmas parade incident, police say. More charges are possible.

A Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin took a terrible turn when an SUV plowed through it, crashing into people and leaving at least 20- 30 injured and two dead according to multiple early reports.

Someone was recording video when the SUV can be seen speeding through the parade, nearly running over a young girl (she’s OK), and then speeding past them and eventually hitting people. Police blocked the scene, but it’s reportedly safe now that the incident is likely over.

Here’s the video that someone posted on social media:

Another video was posted that showed the moment the SUV drove into a marching band. Proceed with caution to view that video as it might be disturbing to some.

An early NBC report suggested there was 20 people injured. However, that number could be much higher as police suggested 30 people injuries and even shots fired as noted by Kaylee Staral, a Business Reporting Intern for the Journal Sentinel. She reported that police said there were at least 30 people injured and shots fired.

Angelito Tenorio, a West Allis alderman who is running for Wisconsin state treasurer, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he was watching the parade with his family when they saw the SUV come speeding into the area.

“Then we heard a loud bang, and just deafening cries and screams from people who are who are struck by the vehicle,” Tenorio said. “And then, and then we saw people running away or stopping crying, and there, there are people on the ground who looked like they’d been hit by the vehicle.” (Fox News)

This is a developing story and it remains unclear who the driver was.
